All Ages Summer Learning Challenge

Summer Learning Logo

Challenge yourself to read or learn every day! Earn small prizes along the way at 5, 10, 15, & 20 days. Every 5 days logged will also get you a virtual ticket to your choice of our grand prize raffles. Looking for more chances to win? You can complete special challenge activities to earn even more virtual raffle tickets. Remember to enter your tickets by July 31!

Open to Lemont students and Lemont cardholders of all ages. Sign up and log through Beanstack, with the Beanstack tracker app, or in person at the library.

There are 3 ways to sign up: 

Reading for the challenge

For the challenge, count the days that:

  • You read to yourself.
  • You are read to by another person.
  • You read to someone else.
  • You listen to or read books, audiobooks, ebooks, magazines, newspapers, blogs, and online articles.

Learning Opportunities

There are so many different forms of learning, and the following are just a few examples of things you could count as a day of learning for the challenge:

  • Listening to a podcast.
  • Watching a documentary.
  • Performing a science experiment.
  • Going on a nature walk to observe plants and animals.
  • Trying a new sport or hobby.

Challenge Activity List

You will earn a raffle ticket for each activity you complete:

  • Attend the SLC Kickoff Celebration

  • Attend a library program at the library or out in the community.  

  • Bring a friend to a library program. 

  • Check out an eAudio or eBook using Hoopla or Libby

  • Browse our cookbooks for a new summer recipe to try. 

  • Check out our Museum Adventure Pass or Explore More Illinois to visit somewhere new. 

  • Read to another person, a pet, or a stuffed animal.

  • Download the library’s new app through the App Store or Google Play.

  • Plant something or browse our seed library.

  • Donate or borrow a puzzle from the library's puzzle swap. 

  • Ask a librarian for a book recommendation in a genre you don’t usually read. 

  • Visit another library

  • Go on a hike or a bike ride at a local park or forest preserve.  

  • Check out a non-book item from our library collection.

  • Bring your book to the park, the beach, on vacation, or anywhere away from home.

  • Visit the StoryWalk® at Mayfair Park.

  • Donate non-perishables to our Little Free Pantry or a book to a Little Free Library. 

Each activity may be completed for a raffle ticket only once.

Logging for the Challenge

There are 3 different ways to log:

  • Beanstack online: Click Log Reading and Activities, select your reader from the drop-down menu, then choose Log Days (for reading or learning) or Complete An Activity (for the special challenge activities).
  • Beanstack tracker app: Tap +, then Reading or Activity, then choose your reader.
  • Paper log: Pick up from the library or print at home.   

 

Prizes

Earn small prizes at 5, 10, 15, & 20 days of reading or learning logged:

  • 5 days = vinyl sticker
  • 10 days = a sweet treat (we'll also have non-food option)
  • 15 days = free 3D print from our 3D printer
  • 20 days = book to keep for kids/notebook for adults/teens may choose either

K-8 students will also get a voucher for a ticket to see a Joliet Slammers baseball game & a voucher for 2 tickets to a Kane County Cougars game.

Raffle Tickets

Enter your virtual tickets by July 31 through our Beanstack website, the Beanstack tracker app, or in person at the Youth or Adult Services desks: 

  • Every 5 days logged (up to 60 total) in June & July earns a raffle ticket. 
  • Each of the 17 special challenge activities you complete also earns another raffle ticket. 
  • We have so many grand prize drawings for you to enter! You can choose whether to put all your tickets in one drawing or to spread them out. 
  • Winners will be drawn on Thursday, August 1 and then announced on Saturday, August 3 at our Summer Learning Challenge Wrap Party.
