Lemont Public Library District serves a population of 21,685 in the village of Lemont, Illinois, Lemont township and parts of unincorporated DuPage County (per 2010 Census figures). The Library District is located 25 miles southwest of Chicago in Cook County. Originally settled in 1836 and incorporated in 1873, historic Lemont is one of the oldest and most unique communities in northeastern Illinois. With rolling hills and three waterways providing a scenic view, Lemont combines historic small town charm with big city amenities.

From its inception in 1929 as a small collection of books housed in the basement of the Village Hall, the Library has expanded its collections, services and facilities to keep pace with the development of Lemont and meet the needs of a vibrant, diverse community.

On November 4, 2014, voters approved a referendum for $2.8M in bonds to fund the renovation of the library. The project included a 2,500 SF addition for a new Event Space and Learning Center and renovation and reorganization of the existing facility, expanding the facility to 24,500 SF. The 9 month transformation, began in August, 2015 and was completed in May, 2016, on time and on budget.

The updated library facility features new furnishings, spaces for public and programming use, reorganized staff areas and updated mechanical, electrical and roofing systems. Visitors may utilize a variety of study spaces for one to six persons. There are dedicated spaces for Children’s Activities, a Teen Lounge for ages 11-17 and an Adult Quiet Room.

The Library provides a variety of technology resources including WIFI access, public computers, printing, scanning and faxing services, loanable eReaders and Rokus, and digital services for cardholders, including ebooks, eaudio, emagazines and streaming music, and electronic databases.

The Library’s collection of approximately 80,000 items featuring books, music, movies, magazines, newspapers and audiobooks for all age and reading levels. The Library also offers a variety of free cultural and instructional programs for all ages, from story times, and children’s activities to teen programs, and adult technology classes and enrichment programs, including culinary demonstrations, and presentations on historical, financial, and educational topics.
