Lemont Public Library has been designated as an official Acceptance Facility of the Department of State. We accept appointments for NEW passports (passport renewals do not require going to an Acceptance Facility) at the following times:
- Tuesdays 6pm - 8pm (evenings have limited availability)
- Sundays 1pm - 4pm
(Note: All times are subject to passport agent availability)
We can sometimes accomodate day-of call ahead appointments Monday-Friday in the morning and afternoon, depending on passport agent availability. To inquire about one of these appointments, call 630-257-6541 ext 2.
Passports are accepted by appointment only. Appointments must be made at least one week in advance. Any arrival times past 15 minutes of your scheduled appointment will be rescheduled for another day.
If you have additional questions, ask at the Adult Reference Desk or call (630) 257-6541 ext 2.
You can renew by mail if all of the following are true of your most recent U.S. Passport:
- It is undamaged and can be submitted with your application;
- Was issued when you were age 16 or older; (this means that children can never renew passports, they always need to make new ones when their old one expires)
- Was issued within the last 15 years; (not expired more than 5 years) and
- Was issued in your current name or you can legally document your name change with a certified copy of your marriage certificate or government-issued document evidencing your legal name change.
To renew a 10-year adult passport, visit www.travel.state.gov and download form DS-82 along with the instructions. Complete the application and mail the application, payment, and the passport to the address on the form. A trip to an acceptance facility is not necessary! The Library does not accept mail-in renewal applications. Adult renewals are done by the adult and acceptance agencies do not accept these applications.
Anyone applying for a first time passport must apply in person using form DS-11. If you were under 16 when your passport was issued (a 5 year passport) you can not renew.
